Planning to study abroad in a later term? The application for Spring 2027 scholarships is anticipated to open in Summer 2026.
FEA invests in deserving U.S. undergraduates with financial need. More than 100 volunteer reviewers read applications each cycle.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for an FEA scholarship, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or DACA recipient
- Be enrolled as an undergraduate at a U.S. institution of higher education at the time of application (graduate students are not eligible)
- Receive credit at your home institution for the program or experience abroad
- Be studying abroad for at least 14 days
- Have not previously studied abroad for any length of time after your high school graduation

FEA determines financial need based on information from the most recent FAFSA. You are eligible for an FEA scholarship with regard to financial need if any of the following apply:
- Your Student Aid Index (SAI) is below 20,000
- You are eligible for a Pell Grant
- You have taken out any amount of student loans for the current academic year
How to Apply
The online application is available to access from this webpage when the application is open. The application will gather information about you, your study abroad program, your academic information (including an unofficial transcript), and more.
You must submit a Financial Aid Form along with the application. This is often the most time-consuming element of the application, so we recommend getting started on it early!
Financial Aid Form Instructions
- Download the Financial Aid Form provided below, as well as the Authorization to Release FAFSA and FERPA Protected Information form.
- Read and sign the document “Authorization to Release FAFSA and FERPA Protected Information” and complete Section 1 of the FEA Financial Aid Form.
- Deliver both documents to your financial aid office, either in-person or via email.
- A representative of your financial aid office should complete Section 2 of the FEA Financial Aid Form and return it to you.
- Complete Section 3 of the FEA Financial Aid Form and upload to your online application. You do not need to upload the Authorization form.
- Make sure ALL application materials are uploaded and submitted before the deadline. Late or incomplete applications or application materials will not be accepted under any circumstance.
